Bio

Although Karaduman & Esin was established recently, Ozan Karaduman’s practice in data privacy started in 2008 by advising mostly technology companies in relation to the privacy and data protection requirements in Turkey. After the Personal Data Protection Law was enacted in 2016, his practice extended to other sectors, including life sciences, automotive, advertisement and media.

The Firm leads projects aimed to ensure the compliance of the clients in many sectors including technology, life sciences, advertisement and media with the Personal Data Protection Law. Within that context, the Firm prepares personal data inventories, privacy notices, consent forms; conducts privacy impact assessments; gives training to employees and provides day to day consultancy in relation to privacy issues.

The Firm advises both local and foreign companies, including some of the largest technology companies, in relation to the requirements under the Data Protection Law and makes compliance analyses of specific operations of those companies. The Firm assists both local and foreign data controllers in registering with the online data controllers’ registry (VERBIS). The Firm helps clients with drafting data breach notifications; assists them in the investigations initiated by the Turkish DPA and drafts responses to the questions of the DPA in those investigations. The Firm also represents clients in lawsuits challenging the decisions of the Personal Data Protection Board.

Ozan is a partner in Karaduman & Esin, a member of the IAPP and one of the previous co-chairs of IAPP KnowledgeNet Istanbul Chapter.

Ozan’s practice in data privacy and protection of personal data started in 2008 by advising mostly technology companies in relation to the privacy and personal data protection requirements in Turkey. He has led various full compliance projects aimed to ensure the compliance of companies with the Personal Data Protection Law.

Ozan regularly advises foreign and local data controllers, including a major technology company, in relation to privacy and personal data protection. He is a member of the IAPP and one of the previous co-chairs of IAPP KnowledgeNet Istanbul Chapter. He is also one of the founding members of Data Protection Association in Turkey. He speaks Turkish (native), English (fluent) and French (intermediate).
