The Government of India has withdrawn the Data Protection Bill that was pending before Parliament.  The Government was reviewing the same and was expected to make some changes.  It would appear that the Government intends to draft a new legislation entirely, possibly as part of a larger legislation covering the digital ecosystem.  Based on past statements, it seems likely that the Government may replace the existing Information Technology Act as well.
