ResourcesJuly 19, 2022EU Commission sued for GDPR violations

A German citizen has sued the European Commission for violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) when transferring data to the US, and also for lack of transparent disclosure of its data processing practices. Europäische Gesellschaft für Datenschutz is the organisation that is supporting the claimant, who complains specifically against the website of the Conference of the Future of Europe which is operated by the EU Commission and hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The registration to the website, or even the log in through users Facebook accounts, implies that personal data is transferred to the US where AWS are based. The claimant had twice asked the European Commission for information on how personal data is processed through the website, receiving allegedly incomplete information the first time and no response to the second enquiry.
